Just got back from vacation and tried out a few new things..
I had a chainsaw mill that I never used and finally put it to the test.
First I hauled a Pine tree down my hill with my tractor and tried not to get the bark dirty. The purpose of this is not to dull the chain while milling..
Finally got it down the hill and set up for the first cut. I used a ladder in order to have an even cut for the Alaskan sawmill to glide on.
Getting the ladder attached to the trunk took the longest of the whole process.
Here is a picture of the first cut. Now I can just use the mill to make the next cuts without the ladder since the cut is true.
I made 2 slabs 2 inches thick and one slab 3 inches thick by 14 feet.
I then put Pressure Treated slats between them to let them air dry.
Each cut took approximately 4 to 5 minutes which wasn't too time consuming. Now the next project with the wood will probably be a heavy duty Picnic table and some benches.

Summer Weather has finally arrived so I decided to take a ride and see how well the Grass grew up at my cabin.
II was just up there 2 weeks ago but the weather really started to get summerlike. The temperature was really up there...
Picked up some tire chains for the Old Lawn tractor and commenced to start cutting.
HThe temperature was around 95 and the sun was unbearable along with the bugs which I thought would be gone.
Cut a branch off the old maple and built a fire to burn up the branches and leaves.
After getting that out of the way I finished weed wacking and cutting the rest of the grass.
I spotted an intruder that put my Grandkids pumpkin Patch in jeopardy and had to do what had to be done.
One more down and about 20 more to go.
In two more weeks the cycle will repeat itself if all goes well. Lot of work to get done and not enough vacation or hours in the day to get it done.

Just go back from the cabin. Went up there to do a little work and get the water running etc. I was a little surprised upon arrival.
The Truck couldn't make it up the Driveway but the Quad did .
The snow was about 12-18 inches on the ground with a frozen crust.
The road was in decent shape but the surroundings sure weren't..
It was like riding on Train tracks as the wheels fell into the ruts and stayed there..
Good shot of the ruts........
Loaded up and ready to head home......
A little unstable but still able to get it in the truck bed.
I'll go back in about three weeks and hopefully all this nasty White Stuff will be gone....It was a great time Nonetheless!
Another great couple days off. Sure beats working...

This website is dedicated to my Grandchildren. I love them both. Here is a picture of my Granddaughter taking her nap dreaming of what kind of day tomorrow will bring!!!
Here she is awake and ready to learn!! Gotta love the innocence...
Here's the grandson ready to operate Grandpas tractor...
Wishing his legs were ajust a little longer.....
Man... The years sure fly by.. Welcome to 2008!
Dug into last summers pictures and have some of my tractor at work clearing out some trails. Quite thick in there.
A view up the side where I have been keeping after it.
Up at the top trying to clean it up a bit...
A look going up towards the top of the hill
Washed out, Steep and a little scary going up with the tractor..
Smoothing it out with the Box Scraper...
Area is a little washed out from the runoff from rains so I'll try to get that filled in on the way down with the Box scraper..
Starting to look like a decent trail. Makes it easier to drag the deer down with the quads during deer season..
Time to call it a day. Little by little it's getting there....

Deer Season 2007 has ended for my Son And I and the Freezer is empty but we had a good time. Temperature was just perfect and a little snow on the ground. A little chilly out but our Cabin was nice and toasty.
My son was all smiles with hopes of the once in a lifetime Buck..
Had the Quad all filled with gas and and rope to drag out the big one.. As you can see there wasn't a lot of Meat to share Sure was a tasty treat though.. Here is the Cabin after the addition. Always under Construction. Good excuse to go up there for the weekend.. When the wind blows these welcome our friends... A Little contest as to who is Bigger.... Both Great Tractors..... Case Closed. MY KUBOTA wins... Fall just peaked up here last week and here are a few pics from the southern Tier of New York Going down to the cabin and its late and 1quite overcast. The colors are really awesome... Getting closer to my destination... Off the main road and through the state land. The Reds Are jumping out at you... Couldn't paint a prettier Picture.. Pond in foregound My land starts at the bottom of the pic and continues up the road. ********************************* It's April here in Western NY, and the snow is still flying. Took a ride out to my property and I knew it wasn't going to be a good day. My son and I went up to cut some trees and do a little work around the area.. It was pretty muddy under the snow but I managed not to get the tractor stuck.. DEER SEASON 2006 The weather was very cooperative on the opening weekend of Deer Season in NY. This is a picture of my son at about 8 AM on opening day. Actually one of the first deer shot around us that early. Doe or not it is still good eating. He was proud. Barely got his hands dirty..... Then he hauled her up the firecut on his trusty Honda Rancher ATV. AAfter a bunch of tugging and lifting we got her on the Hanging post I decided to go back up and hunt a little while longer. I was in my tree stand for about ten minutes when this buck came into view. Down he went and back down to the hanging post.. My son and I called it a day and cooked up some breakfast. It isn't always this easy.....Time to tell some stories over the breakfast table of all the action of the day. ____________________________________________________ When they say RED SKY in the Morning Sailor Take Warning this SKY was definitely a statement.
