This class will cover part 1 and much of part 4 in the
two-year IB English HL syllabus as well as a
chronological study of American literature. Major
readings will include American and world literature
classics. Writing will include reflective, creative, and
analytical writing - with emphasis on analytical -
including comparison/contrast essays using the world
literature selections to satisfy the IB World literature
requirement for the IB English HL exam.

We will also work on vocabulary, grammar, and other
mechanical skills as well as develop skill in
identification and application of rhetorical strategies.
Students are expected to participate in class
discussions and make informal and prepared
presentations, both group and individual. One
individual presentation is a required portion of the IB
English A1 Internal Assessment (end of term 1).
