Course Design
Sophomore English is aligned with the California
Academic Content Standards for the English /
Language Arts. In this course, students will apply and
develop skills in reading, writing, and analysis,
through study of multiple genres, including short
story, novella, novel, drama, poetry, and non-fiction,
to consider essential questions about humanity such
as "Who are we?", "What are we?", and "What do we
think?" We will focus on vocabulary, grammar, and
most importantly, critical thinking and writing skills to
prepare for further study. Our goals are to become
life-long learners, solve problems, work
cooperatively, and learn how to thrive in an
ever-changing global community.
