How do I start creating my Web site?
You have two options when you use Road Runner to help create your Web site:
  1. You may want to create your site using Microsoft Front Page.
  2. Or you also have the option to create your Web site using your own HTML editor and then FTP it up to the Personal Home Page server.
Select whichever option you feel most comfortable with.

Which HTML editor should I use to create my Web site?
Road Runner supports any HTML editor which creates standard HTML code. You may use Microsoft FrontPage, which will allow you to create and publish your Web pages automatically, or you can use any HTML editor and upload your site via FTP.

Will I be able to modify my page once I submit it?
Of course. You can modify, revise or add to your page(s) as many times as you need to. If you are using Microsoft FrontPage or FTP you can modify the pages on your computer and launch these products at anytime to upload your site.

What file names are acceptable?
Road Runner uses the UNIX operating system for Web hosting services. In the UNIX operating system, all filenames are "case sensitive." This means that if you upload your files including upper case letters, then your HTML references must also match the case in the exact same manner. We suggest that you name all of your files in lower case letters.

There are no filename length restrictions (as commonly exhibited with DOS and Windows 3.x versions).

How do I get a Web page to load automatically instead of a directory index or listing?
You must name your main loading file "index.html". Be sure to name everything in lowercase, not "INDEX.HTML". This file must be located in your Personal Home Page home directory.

How can I simulate sub-Web sites within my account?
To simulate a sub-Web site, you have to create a new directory (or folder for Macintosh users) and then upload the main loading page (index.html) to that directory. You can set up as many sub-Web sites as you wish. Road Runner only charges additional fees if you need to exceed the allotted disk space limits that are established in your pricing plan.

Are there any limits to what I can put on my Web site?
You may add video and/or audio to your web site, but the clips must be downloaded by the site visitor. You can not use technologies such as streaming video or streaming audio. Additionally Road Runner is not offering any CGI functionality.

Will I get e-mail confirmation when my Home Page becomes live? Is it live immediately?
When you first create your Personal Home Page account, your web site is "live" immediately. You will receive E-mail confirmation which will include information about your Personal Home Page account.

If I choose to remove my Web site, what happens to the page(s) I've created?
If you choose to delete your Road Runner Web page(s), you will not be able to retrieve them. Any deletion(s) will not have any effect on your billing.

If you decide to delete your Road Runner Web page(s), and you have already upgraded to a larger amount of diskspace, you need to modify your diskspace allocation. This adjustment will be reflected in your monthly billing.

How will I be billed for creating a Personal Home Page?
As a valued customer, your custom-created personal Web site is a FREE premium service offered by your cable operator. For being a Road Runner subscriber you automatically have space reserved. You can upgrade your total disk space at any time by going into MODIFY ACCOUNT on the main Personal Home Page menu. If you choose to upgrade, the cost will be reflected on your next month’s cable bill.

Where can I get help?
If you still have questions about your Web site after reviewing the topics in help, please call your local cable operator.

How secure is my site?
While there are always certain uncontrollable security risks, the Road Runner Personal Home Page service has taken all the available precautions to ensure that your Web site is safe from tampering, including daily file back-up and 24-hour monitoring of the entire service for illegal outside access.

Do I have telnet access to my site?
No. In order to preserve the security of the Road Runner system, you cannot telnet directly into your Web site directory. Telnet access opens up the possibility of hacking directly into the system, thus jeopardizing the security of your site and all Road Runner Personal Home Page customers.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the only access Road Runner provides to home page account holders. When you FTP files to your directory, you "see" only the files in your personal directory. You cannot access any other account holder's files; nor can they access your personal directory files. File upload access is limited to FTP to reduce the risk that your page(s) might be hacked into.
