MAINE FLAG

music: Tara'stheme

The small village of Waterville furnished 525 soldiers, one of every eight of its citizens or about one-third of its adult men, during the American Civil War. In 1860, Waterville had a population of only 4,420 with a total of 855 households.  Sixty of these soldiers were of French-Canadian descent, representing a proportional share of Waterville's Franco-American population in this conflict. Below are many of these courageous men along with very few who, reportedly, lost their courage and deserted and did not receive an honorable discharge.
